About this program

NSF Engines make decade-long investments in regional coalitions advancing use-inspired research, technology translation and workforce development around a defined topic - from semiconductors to regenerative medicine. Type 2 awards fund up to $160M over ten years with staged gate reviews at years two, four and seven.

Who can apply

Coalitions led by universities, nonprofits or companies anchored outside established tech hubs. Each Engine must span research, workforce and translation partners within a coherent region.
